Touristic guide and map of the town of CORMONS in Friuli region

   Little town with 7500 inhabitants, Cormons always has been a frontier-point in military, in administration and in culture. In the last centuries it belonged to the Habsburg Empire which has guarantied to it autonomy and prosperity.
  The most important heritages of the past times are medieval defensive buildings as the castle (upon the ‘Monte’), the quarters of Parish Church and of San Giovanni Church built ‘a centa’ (‘at square’), and some groups of buildings ‘a corte’ (a court closed with walls) as the ‘Neuhaus’.
  Then several Renaissance palaces (about ten in the centre and in San Rocco quarter), convents and monasteries, churches and chapels (about fifteen).
  Unusually (compared to the rest o f the region) in Cormons there are numerous neoclassical and Art nouveau buildings (as the Theatre).
  Noteworthy many manors and typical houses (built with the characteristic local ochre stones) present particularly in Giassico, Brazzano and Boatina hamlets.
   
   

 Particularly original monuments at Cormons

  In the above-stated map we have indicated the most original buildings, beginning from the monument of Maximilian of Habsburg who granted a large autonomy to the local Community. But all streets of the historical centre show something of interest.
Moreover we signal:
- the Mount Quarin with its paths, typical houses, church, castle and a large view
- the permanent exhibition of artistic wine labels at the Produttori Vini Cormons’s Winery
- the natural park Bosco di Plessiva with recreational facilities
- the Plessiva Valley

The special gastronomy of Cormons

  The town is famous for the wine-growing and producing, at high level of quality, with several wineries of various dimensions: in the hill area they produce grapes Doc Collio, in the plain Doc Isonzo.
  Really excellent also in Cormons a little production of typical cured ham.
