A millenary spiritual and cultural presence
still shining in the kingdome of water resurgences

Sesto al Reghena is born as roman supplies station and military garrison on the Via Augusta road sixth mile at North of the important imperial centre of Concordia Sagittaria.

After the desertification caused by barbarian people, the Lombards repopulated the area and gave to it the first economic impulse, thanks to plenty of resurgence waters.

There was however the benedictine monks, founding the abbey in 730 a.C., to mark the fate of this country. They reclaimed and made it safe, creating a little fortified town with seven towers that was able to resist against all military incursions in the following centuries. In 1100-1200 the Abbey, with autonomous administration but included in the Patriarchate of Aquileia, reached the maximum splendour. The monastery was closed by Napoleon army in 1790.

But today, completely restored, has recovered a large call being able to offer unique moments of religious meditations, an interesting evidence of ancient history and art, a prestigious place for high level cultural and artistic events.

Whole area of the municipal district is scattered of springs, small and big waterways, which create an unique natural environment

To the lovers of a little of adventure we recommend to discovery it following on foot one waterway from its spring at North (for example, from the ‘Acqua di Villa’ spring) until to the borders of the municipal area at South when it has reached, in only 3-4 km, the flow of a proper river.

On the water paths in fact you will not only find fountains, small lakes, mills and votive chapels but, above all, acquire the salutary effects of the energy of the water gushing from the Mother Earth
